CAD-IT UK Ltd are seeking a Technical Author to join a friendly and collaborative team, to develop, write and deliver technical documentation for a well known OEM based in the West Midlands.

You will join a business who deliver technical publications for a range of leading automotive, aerospace, rail, industrial, construction and agricultural manufacturing customers.

We are interested in individuals with relevant qualifications and/or experience in related vehicle engineering, electrical, mechanical, diagnostic, body repair or technical documentation fields.

Person Specification:

  • You must have experience or confidence in dealing with automotive electrical and/or mechanical systems and other technical information.
  • Flexible with the ability to multi-task, work proactively, independently and manage multiple projects is essential.
  • A knowledge of XML, HTML, Microsoft programmes like Excel, Word, Project, Visio, PowerPoint, CAD modelling software and CMS systems is a distinct advantage.
  • The ability to conduct yourself professionally in a customer facing environment, and to liaise confidently with engineers and senior management is important.
  • Being pragmatic and imaginative and with the ability to think laterally in solving problems and delivering solutions is essential.

Role Details:

CAD-IT UK Ltd has an opportunity for a permanent Training & eLearning Technical Author to join its Technical Publications team, working on behalf of a prestigious automotive OEM based in the West Midlands.

You will become part of a larger team that provides service and systems evaluation, and delivers a range of technical publications, such as user guides, owner manuals, service and repair methods, illustrated parts catalogues, electrical, mechanical and diagnostic information and other essential dealer communications.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience in a technical authoring role, or with writing and delivering similar textual and graphical based documentation of a technical nature.
  • Knowledge or experience of media creation/editing tools, to create training videos is desirable.
  • Knowledge or experience of Simplified Technical English (STE) is desirable.
  • The ability to work to strict deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong technical knowledge and/or hands-on experience within the automotive service and vehicle repair industry is essential. A passion for cars is a bonus.
  • Strong IT skills are essential. Experience with CAD, Cortona, HTML, XML, SCORM wrapping, Articulate, web-based CMS and/or LMS would be a distinct advantage.

The successful candidate will:

  • Liaise with the technical training team to establish all objectives, check progress, quality check and publish content as needed.
  • Gather information on new vehicles/technical subject areas, establishing and utilising key contacts within the business.
  • Develop and author technical eLearning modules to be uploaded on to the Learning Management System.

Key tasks:

  • Undertaking Virtual service assessments of new vehicle and powertrain designs with a view to ensuring serviceability in line with customer requirements

CAD-IT UK Ltd are looking to fill an AMM (Aircraft Maintenance Manual) and IPC (Illustrated Parts Catalogue) Authoring role. The role will be based at the CAD-IT facility in Northamptonshire on a permanent basis, and will include working on various projects, encompasses multiple industries, but primarily within Aerospace.

The desired candidate will have had previous technical authoring experience in the aerospace industry to join the current team and become involved in developing, writing and delivering technical documentation:

Expectations of this role

As an AMM & IPC Author your primary role will be the authoring of Aircraft Maintenance Manuals and Illustrated Parts Catalogues, however other authoring deliverables (across multiple industries) will be required. 

A flexible and dynamic attitude to the tasks assigned will be a key attribute using both Plain English and Simplified Technical English (STE) for all procedural and descriptive documents.

The successful candidate will have a keen eye for detail and excellent communication skills, with the ability to interpret complex topics and deliver them in an easily understood and unambiguous way. You will need to write in an appropriate style depending on the intended audience for example: Technicians, Dealers, customers or staff. There will be an element of travel and some extended remote training on a customer site for familiarisation and project setup.

The ability to multitask and balance priorities is desirable as these can change frequently.
