CAD-IT UK Ltd are seeking a junior Technical Author to join a friendly team working on technical documentation projects for global vehicle manufacturers. You will join a business who deliver technical publications for a range of leading automotive, aerospace, rail, industrial, construction and agricultural manufacturing customers.
We would like to find, fully train, develop and mentor strong candidates with a passion for technical information and cars / automotive.
If you are a graduate, trainee or apprentice technician, and/or an individual who has vehicle workshop experience, or you are simply familiar with the struggle of repairs to your own vehicle, in the rain and on your own driveway, that is ideal for us.
Person Specification:
The person is more valuable than the experience, the degree or the training.
- We want those who are friendly, professional, take direction well but also use initiative, are flexible and can work independently.
- You need to be proficient with typical software like MS Office software and confident enough to be trained on new software and systems, like CAD model manipulation.
- Any knowledge of the following that you bring with you is a bonus: vehicle mechanics, engineering, auto electrical, diagnostics, automotive body repair, technical documentation.
- Being pragmatic and imaginative and with the ability to think laterally in solving problems and delivering solutions is essential.
Role Details:
The role may be involved with many different types of project, such as: repair / workshop manuals, electrical guides, service bulletins, training information, parts manuals, diagnostic solutions and more. Each broadly shares the same pattern of daily tasks:
- Establish the requirement(s) and assess what is needed.
- Liaise with others to capture all technical data, illustrations, CAD and other information, then interrogate it.
- Track your progress on tasks and report out to the project manager(s).
- Complete all tasks to a high standard, ensure they are peer reviewed then submit on time.
Each project is different and varied, and each day will offer new challenges.

CAD-IT are seeking a Service Communications Engineer who will be the link between engineering and the Aftersales dealer network. Following the launch of new vehicles, technical scenarios are identified by engineering and communicated to the Service Communications team, should the dealer network require notification. You will be responsible for understanding, developing and authoring technical documentation with a particular focus on the end consumers within the dealer network.
You will join a business who deliver technical publications for a range of leading automotive, aerospace, rail, industrial, construction and agricultural manufacturing customers.
We are interested in dynamic, engaging individuals with relevant qualifications and/or experience in related software engineering, vehicle and master technician, electrical integration, mechanical, diagnostic, or technical documentation fields.
Who We’re Looking For:
· Highly detail orientated and able to prepare technical documentation to exacting quality standards.
· Eloquence – a high level of English language, writing, spelling and punctuation skills.
· Very good communication and professionalism to liaise with all levels of personnel.
· Organised and accustomed to managing multiple high-profile projects in parallel.
· Presentation skills – comfortable to prepare and present business cases to the senior team using Microsoft PowerPoint.
· Data analysis – advanced Excel user accustomed to analysing large datasets and transforming to varied reports / reviewable formats.
· Capable of reviewing engineering documents such as Design Note/Engineering Release and converting them to a format which can be consumed by non-engineers.
· Practical hands - on ability to conduct software updates and vehicle repair trials. Electric and Hybrid knowledge would be advantageous.
· Proactive, flexible, ability to work independently and solve problems to deliver solutions is essential.
· Technical authoring competence or experience would be advantageous.
· Experience with CAD, HTML, XML and authoring software is desirable. However, training can be provided.
Key Responsibilities:
· Information gathering – following a request for technical documentation, you must gather all relevant information and demonstrate an understanding of the topic.
· Technical documentation – produce and maintain documentation in the desired format based on the communication type against quality standards.
· Digital content – utilise illustrations, physical imagery, CAD and rendered graphics throughout technical documentation to provide the highest level of information delivery.
· Validation – confirm the information authored is correct through digital sign off and plan/execute physical validation where required.
· Communication – notify key stakeholders, present in detail where required and ensure that communication both internally and externally is clear and concise.
· Engineering Changes – react in a timely manner to update technical documentation following change always ensuring correctness.
· Deliver on time – meet deadlines against KPI’s and delivery of technical documentation vs legislative standards.
